Global Grape Convention Unites Chile and Peru

The inaugural event taking place in Chile in August will bring together members of the supply chain to learn, network and better understand the industry’s future direction as it faces vast challenges.

For the first time, leading organizations from Chile and Peru will convene at the Global Grape Convention 2024 to collaboratively address challenges in the table grape sector and share crucial market insights. The global grape-producing and exporting industry has faced significant upheaval due to climatic shifts, the Covid-19 pandemic, logistical challenges and the introduction of new varieties that have fallen short of expectations.

In response, Chile and Peru, global frontrunners in table grape production and exportation, have resolved to take proactive steps by organizing this unprecedented meeting on August 8, 2024, at the Monticello Casino Event Center in Mostazal, close to the Chilean capital of Santiago.

The Table Grape Committee of Frutas de Chile (formerly ASOEX), the Association of Table Grape Producers of Peru (PROVID) and Yentzen Group—a leader in providing global industry news, events and marketing services—aim not only to offer pivotal and distinct market insights but also to unite key global retailers and importers. Their goal is to forge collaborative solutions and tackle the primary challenge facing the table grape industry worldwide: to increase and diversify consumption.

“The international table grape industry is at a defining moment,” warns Iván Marambio, president of Frutas de Chile. “With the explosive increase in global supply and lower growth in demand, a significant imbalance has occurred. So, if we do not do something to increase consumption, there will be irreversible adjustments.”

PROVID general manager Alejandro Cabrera reinforces this premise. “We consider it very important to communicate this in a very solid, very direct and realistic way, so that everyone involved in this sector is aware of it,” he says. “Supply has increased, but demand has not increased at the same level, and we have to be responsible. If we do not act today, it will be very difficult for the business to remain sustainable and sustained over time. That is why we consider the Global Grape Convention vital and powerful—since it aims to address the future envisioned for table grapes in the two largest supplier countries, Peru and Chile.”

The only way to achieve the objective of increasing demand is for the world’s leading producing countries to understand this challenge and act together. “We wanted to impart a commercial rather than technical perspective of what the last few seasons have been like and the opportunities for improvement,” says Gustavo Yentzen, president of Yentzen Group, the event organizer. “The Global Grape Convention 2024 will unite these important associations from two key countries in the industry to foster collaboration and competitiveness.”

Yentzen adds, “Today’s challenges are significant and apply to all levels of the supply chain. What we aim to achieve with this event is to create a forum for analysis where all stakeholders—producers, exporters, importers and distributors vital to supermarkets—can participate. Our goal is to gain a clear understanding and establish a roadmap for the future.”

Yentzen Group has vast experience putting on world-class events for the produce industry. It organizes numerous events that take place annually in Chile, including the Global Cherry Summit and the South American Blueberry Convention.

The Global Grape Convention will offer excellent spaces both for presentations and panel discussions as well as a trade fair, which will include ample opportunities for networking and business transactions.
